If you’re new here, I’m the auction guy you probably saw on Insta, YouTube or X. You may have downloaded my Auction Starter Guide with the lists of all the auction sites and tips on getting started.
Thanks for being here Reader. Let's get right into it.
Kip Roland is our Live Selling Coach.
He's done this a lot. Established shows. Products he knows cold. A system he teaches to everyone else.
He was ready to try something new.
Brand new TikTok account. Zero followers. Zero posts. Zero history.
And a product he'd never sold in his life: tissue culture plants.
Kip knows nothing about plants. He posted that he is "learning a ton every day lol."
Here's the part that hit home with me when Kip shared this with us:
He was nervous. He kept delaying the first show because he was scared it would flop.
Our live selling coach. The guy who teaches people how to press the button. Couldn't press the button. I know this feeling! And I’ll bet you do, too.
So, he did what he tells everyone to do. He practiced his pitch about 100 times. Learned how to pronounce the plant names. Looked up what the heck these things even were.
Then he went live.
5 minutes in: zero people. No sales.
Then 1 viewer. Then 2. Then one sale.
He didn't change a thing. Pitch every new person who walks in. Congratulate every winner. Keep it fast. Repeat.
One by one, people showed up.
By the end of the 2.5 hour show, there were over 120 people in the room and plants were flying. 144 sales. $1,728 in revenue.
33,000 impressions per hour. On an account with 0 followers.
Here’s the big takeaway from Kip’s post in our Reseller Mastermind:
The nerves don't go away with experience: Kip still felt them. Experience just teaches you that the first 5 minutes are supposed to be quiet. Everyone who quits in minute 4 never finds out what happens in minute 40.
And here's the other part: When Kip pulled it off, where did he share it first?
Not Instagram. Not TikTok.
He posted it inside the Mastermind. Because that's where people support each other. Where nobody says, "plants? really?" Where someone who's about to try their own scary first thing reads it and thinks, okay, if Kip was nervous, I'm allowed to be nervous too.
That's what a great community does. Someone goes first, and everyone else gets permission.
Maybe your zero-viewers moment is your first pallet. Your first auction bid. Your first Whatnot show. Your first time listing something you don't fully understand yet.
You're going to be nervous. That's fine.
You just shouldn't have to sit through those quiet first minutes alone.
Kip's last line is the one I'd tape to the wall:
"If you've been waiting until you have an audience to go live... go live. That's where the audience comes from."
Cheers to your inevitable success!
