I’ve had a bad case of the “I Wants” my entire life.

As a kid: I want that toy, I want that candy.

As an adult: I want that Jeep. I want that house.

Sometimes, this can be destructive - you can find yourself never satisfied.

I found a better way to cure the I Wants. Here it is:

Work your ass off to get the stuff you want.

That’s the system.

Yesterday, I was walking around our house, and I kept thinking of upgrades I wanted to make.

Instead of just paying to do the upgrades, I start a dialog inside my head

“Everything you want is on the other side of…”

In my case, the other side is this:

  • Getting over being uncomfortable on camera.
  • Hiring people to help grow our $5 Reseller Mastermind.
  • Not letting imposter syndrome slow me down.
  • Grinding every single day to build something great.

Each time I looked at something, I fired up my inner dialog:

I’d like to install new kitchen cabinets.

“Everything you want is on the other side of…”

I want to replace the stonework around our pool.

“Everything you want is on the other side of…”

This deck needs to be replaced.

“Everything you want is on the other side of…”

You get the idea.

I could just write a check to get these things done. Instead, they become my carrot.

I am not getting any of these things, these big “I Wants,” until I get to the other side – where success is.

Right over there, just beyond that mountain.
