A new member named Greg posted his introduction in the Mastermind today.

He’s married with three kids. He’s tired of the grind of working for someone else. What he wants most is more time with his family.

“…transitioning from the grind of working for others to investing in myself and my family.”

He said he hopes reselling will be the vehicle that gets him there.

Then he wrote two words: “Here we go!”

A few hours later, another member, Rion, replied with a line that struck home for me:

“Time freedom is the greatest form of compensation a father can receive from his work.”

Read that again.

When people join the Mastermind, they almost never tell me they want to get rich.

They tell me they want flexibility.

They want to be at school pickup, take a Friday off without asking, and stop dreading Sunday night.

That’s what reselling gave me. It’s why I still love this business after 25 years.

You set the hours. You list after the kids go to bed. You ship on your lunch break. You source on Saturday morning with a coffee in one hand and a little helper in the passenger seat.

Nobody approves your time off, and the inventory doesn’t care when you work.

But freedom doesn’t start with a resignation letter. It starts with a number.

For most families, that number isn’t a million dollars. It’s the gap between what comes in and what life actually costs.

So let’s make it concrete.

If I needed to make an extra $5,000 a month for my family, here are the 9 steps I’d take starting today:

1. Walk around. You don’t need to buy anything to start reselling. Look in your closet, garage, or basement. We all have things we never use. Your first inventory costs you nothing.
   ​
2. Fit the product to the marketplace. Apparel goes to Poshmark, Whatnot, and TikTok Live. Larger items go on Facebook Marketplace. eBay is for everything else. The right item on the wrong platform sits for months.
   ​
3. Learn from these first sales. Pay attention to photos, listing details, pricing, shipping, and customer service. Every mistake you make on a $20 jacket from your closet is one you won’t make on a $2,000 pallet.

4. Get your resale permit. It lets you buy inventory without paying sales tax, and most liquidation sites require it. We keep a state by state permit guide inside the Mastermind.

5. Find your niche. What do you love? What’s your Unfair Advantage? The mechanic knows auto parts. The mom of three knows kids’ gear. Start where you already know more than the average buyer.
   ​
6. Research the best sellers in your niche. Look at what they sell, how they price it, and how they photograph it. Copy them, and then do it better.
   ​
7. Register on every liquidation platform you can find. That means B-Stock, GSA Auctions, Costco Auctions, and every other one you come across. You can’t buy the deal you never saw.
   ​
8. Start small. Only buy when you know what you can sell it for. Look up sold comps before you bid, not after. Let the math decide, not your excitement.
   ​
9. Rinse and repeat. Keep experimenting, learning, and improving. $5,000 a month is rarely one big win. It’s a hundred small ones stacked on top of each other. Reselling is a simple way to make money. It’s hard work, but the system works.
